Are we closer to getting a TV station based on video podcasts? I know I know, video podcasts make the TV irrelevant. Video podcasts will sooner find its way mixed into regular programming on, say, MTV. And the TiVo already mixes video blogs into other on-demand shows.
But still, it’s fun to muse…
As KYOU in San Francisco is a radio station of podcasts, imagine the same for TV with video podcasts. There’s a new company called Podango that aims to create podcast channels, with programming by content experts, and episodes run end-to-end like TV. Make these video podcasts, then have it picked up by a broadcast station.
Update…
I feel compelled to elaborate on the problem with putting new media into old. Frankly, it would lose many of the great features around video podcasts such as the Web 2.0 community aspects such as comments, embedding, etc. And viewership would not be as high on TV, especially without the on-demand aspect or the lack of feeds that would kill greater dissemination of the content.
The point of this post is that I can see a potential for some crossover mix in the near future, and see some interesting transitional companies and models for it.
