Today my buddy Erik Herz and family loaded up a moving truck and began heading toward their new home in Connecticut. I met Erik and his partner Chris Dawson years ago at Streaming Media East where I was amazed to find a webcast system similar to Berkeley’s packed into a unit appropriately called Webcast-in-Box. We immediately hit it off, topping each other’s enthusiasm for open source tools. Erik made many visits to Berkeley where we piloted a Box, but we generally struck up a kinship around a shared enthusiasm for the creative use of technology in the service of public good. Erik’s been a mentor, and I credit him for making me realize the future of podcasting. In return I talked him into blogging, since, afterall, I needed a tech buddy to delve into it with! Besides, he knows his stuff and isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions, which of course makes for great reading. While we might not see each other every month at the SF Podcast MeetUp, we’ll surely keep in touch as much as online. It’s what brought us together, and keeps us together. Good luck to you Erik!
