Ecosystem of educational coursecasts

By obie

De.licio.us Popular turned me on to “Getting an Online Education Free” on Jimmy R.’s Blog where I was happy to see webcast.berkeley at the top of the list, followed by MITs OpenCourseWare. Jimmy writes:

Despite having a lot of people who have donated a whole lot of money to help MIT OpenCourseware, I don’t see it as being all that much better than the Berkeley webcasts.

This is important feedback. From a content perspective, audio/video is the medium and therefore the message.

Jimmy proceeds to have a “Study” section where he reviews Berkeley webcast lectures’ production values, and gathers links to more info about the prof, course, and reading materials. But best of all, he publishes his notes on the lectures. The notes link out to other sources to learn more about a term or concept.

This is the first example I’ve seen where a students/user rates a class, enhances it, and shares this information with others. Now wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were a community aspect to webcast.berkeley to encourage this type of thing?
